Social movements:
The social movement that Martin Luther started against the Catholic Church resulted in Protestantism.
Social movements are grassroots groups organized around the defense or promotion of a cause that, in a coordinated, planned and sustained manner over time, seek social change.
Social movements are articulated around two fundamental keys: the perception of a shared identity among its members and the systematic organization with a future projection, all aimed at intervening concretely in society. This distinguishes the concept of social movement from the concepts of collective behavior and collective action.

In 1963 in Birmingham, Alabama, King led mass peaceful protests that white police forces fought with police dogs and fire hoses creating a controversy that generated newspaper headlines around the world. Subsequent mass protests in many towns culminated in a rally that drew more than 250,000 protesters to Washington, DC, where King delivered his famous "I have a dream" speech in which he envisioned a world where people were no longer divided by their race. .
So strong was the movement that King started that Congress passed the Civil Rights Act in 1964, the same year he was honored with the Nobel Peace Prize. King, who received the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously, is an icon of the civil rights movement. His life and work symbolize the search for equality and non-discrimination found in the essence of the American dream, and human.
